12 Days Deep into Borneo

Day 1: Arrival meeting – overnight stay at 3* Hotel in Kota Kinabalu

Our first day will start with a tour briefing meeting. Our experienced guides will talk you through the itinerary, along with safety and transport logistics. Overnight stay at a comfortable 2-3* City Centre Hotel.

 

Day 2: Kota KIMG_0483inabalu to Maliau Basin – Level 3 – 4

Depart at 0600hrs to Maliau Basin, 295km from Kota Kinabalu, approximately 6hrs drive. Upon arrival
, registration will taIMG_0434ke place before we proceed to the Agathis camp and continue trekking 7.5km, approximately 4-5hrs, to the Camel Trophy Camp. This is situated some 1005 metres above sea-level. A packed lunch and evening dinner will be provided. (L,D)

 

Day 3: Full Day Maliau Basin – Level 3.5

After breakfast, hike to Akob Takob & Gelok Waterfall, approximately 7km return journey. Break for lunch before trekking 6km to Ginseng Camp. Along the trail, different species of pitcher plants grow in abundance, along with a variety of other wildlife. Overnight stay at Ginseng Camp. (B,L,D)

 

Day 4: Full Day Maliau – Level 4.5

 Early breakfast is followed by a morning trek to Maliau Fall, approximately 11km return. Lunch at Ginseng Camp before continuing the 9km trek back to Agathis Camp, approximately 3-4hrs journey. Overnight stay at Ag

Day 5: Maliau Basin to SempornaIMG_0554

Breakfast will be followed by transport from Maliau to Semporna, approximately 5hrs drive. From Semporna, we will reach Mabul Island via a 45minute boat ride. A hearty dinner will be provided at the SMART resort before overnight stay. (B,L,D)

Day 6: Full day Mabul Island                                                         

Buffet breakfast will be served in the relaxing open-air dining room at the SMART resort. There are a number of activities to choose from after breakfast including DSC04657snorkelling, swimming and kayaking. Mabul is also a world-class diving resort, with a variety of tropical fish and turtles, so daily boat dives are an opportunity not to be missed for SCUBA enthusiasts. For those who prefer to unwind and soak up the sunshine, the
pristine island is perfect for simply laying in a hammock and relaxing by the beach. (B,L,D)

Day 7: Full Day Mabul Island

Another opportunity to explore all that Mabul Island has to offer. If you need any advice on activities, the guides and staff at the resort will be happy to help you depending on your interests. (B,L,D)


Day 8: Mabul to KinabatanganDSC04644

After breakfast, depart by boat to Samporna. Continue by bus to Kinabatangan, approximately 5hrs drive.
After check-in at Myne resort, embark on an afternoon river cruise to witness the wildlife in and around the river, including crocodiles, monkeys, orang-utan, birds of paradise and many more. Return to the resort for dinner and overnight stay. An optional night cruise is available for an additional MYR200 per boat, with capacity for 2-6 persons. (B,L,D)


Day 9: Full Day Kinabatangan

 Rise and shine for an early morning river cruise at 0600hrs. This allows us to observe the animals at Kinabatangan coming to life as the sun rises. Return to the resort for breakfast, followed by a guided nature walk through the rainforest. The afternoon cruise will again depart at 1600hrs – remember, no two trips will be the same, with a variety of different wildlife appearing and different parts of the river to explore. There will be an opportunity for an optional visit to Gomantang Cave for an additional RM100 per person including transport and entrance fees (please note, came
ra fees of RM30 apply at Gomantong for those who wish to photograph the cave). (B,L,D)


Day 10: Kinabatangan to Sepilok Orangutan & Sun Bear Rehabilitation CentreIMG_1560

 Early breakfast followed by transport to Sandakan, approximately 2hrs drive. Arrive in time for the 1000hrs orangutan and sun bear feeding and learn about the conservation of these amazing creatures. Proceed to the POW Camp w
hich pays
tribute to the plight of soldiers during WWII. Return to Sepilok for the afternoon feeding at 1500hrs, followed by optional visits to the rainforest discovery centre, and the Labuk Proboscis Monkey sanctuary for feeding at 1630hrs (additional RM140). Check in to Jungle Lodge for overnight stay. (B,L)

 

Day 11: Sandakan to Kinabalu World Heritage Park

After early breakfast, departIMG_1147 Labuk B&B to Kinabalu Heritage Park, approximately 5hrs drive. Hike through the mountain forest along the Silau
-Si

lau trail and visit the mountain garden where unique species of flora and fauna can be found. Transfer from the park to Kota Kinabalu, approximately 2hrs drive, for overnight accommodation (alternative transport can be arranged independently: 45min flight from Sandakan to Kota
Kinabalu followed by 15min bus to hotel). Evening Dinner with the group. (B,L)

Day 12: Transfer to airport for flight home
