Sepilok Orang Utan & Proboscis

Meet, greet and pick-up at any hotel in Sandakan town or at the Sandakan Airport. We will proceed for a 30minute drive to Sepilok orangutan rehabilitation centre. Once at the center, you will witness the feeding of the orangutan at a platform in the forest. Watch the scheduled video documentary at Sepilok information center, which will give you an breif insight into the orangutan rehabilitation process, and the threats to their survival in the wild. Next, we will proceed to ‘Puh Jih Sih’ temple, situated on the hilltop with a commanding view of Sandakan bay. Built in 1087, this ornate temple is blazoned with red and gold writhing dragons and a gold gilded Buddha. It is believed that the temple protects and brings good fortune to the Sandakan community. After this, we will proceed downhill for lunch at a local restaurant.
After lunch, we will continue on to the Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary, which will take us on an off-the-road route to our destination. Upon arrival, we will proceed to the observation area were you will experience up-close the magnificent sight of these elusive monkeys. Found in most coastal areas of northern Borneo, they are common inhabitants of mangrove forests and lowland rainforests. With its characteristic pot belly, huge pendulous nose and the strange honking sound it makes, it is the one of the most peculiar animals in the world and can only be found in Borneo. After experiencing the Orangutans and Proboscis up close, we will return you to your hotel or Sandakan Airport.
